#107 - Hampi

Hampi is a beautiful place situated on the banks of Tungabadhra river, in the state of Karnataka. It has to offer ruins of the great Vijayanagar kingdom that ruled south India for more than a couple of centuries. Temples, buildings and other stuctures provide traces that seem to have survived to tell you a tale of ravages of time and its beauty can take you into a world lived 200 years before now.

Interestingly, Hampi also happens to be the place portrayed as Kishkinda in the 7000 year old great Indian epic, Ramayan. This is the sacred place where Hanuman was born, it was the kingdom of the Vanaras, the monkey people, and this is the place where Ram, hero of the epic, found hope in despair of searching his wife, Sita.
